Connecting to the Network

Here is a short list of topics of things you can do to connect your pc, ,mac, wireless, and game consoles to the network.

Residence Hall Room Ethernet Connections

All residence hall rooms are wired for Ethernet, which requires an Ethernet card to establish a connection. All residence hall rooms are equipped with at least 1 activated port.

Connecting to the Network-Windows

What you need
A working Ethernet (network card) installed.
A standard, CAT-5 Ethernet cable.
Anti-virus software with updated definitions.
Operating system updated with critical patches.

How to connect
Plug end of Ethernet cable into an Ethernet port in Residence Hall room.
Insert other end of cable into your computer's Ethernet port
Verify your network connection by checking to see if the link light on the Ethernet card is on. This is located on the back of the computer (a link light is on most Ethernet cards, but not all.)
Test to see if the Internet is working via the web.
Enter your Brescia University username and password

Game Consoles
Devices such as Xbox, Playstation, GameCube, etc., that need network access can be registered by the following:
To connect your Xbox to the network, follow the directions that came with your Xbox Live Start-Up Kit.

To connect your Playstation to the network, follow the instructions that came with your PS2 network adapter.
The 12-digit number at the bottom-right corner of the Network Settings screens is the MAC address of your Xbox console. Do not change your Xbox console MAC address, just write it down for registration.

Go to the IT Helpdesk and click submit ticket
Fill out the request ticket. Be sure to include your name, room number, type of console, and its MAC address.
Plug the game console into the Ethernet jack in your room using a Cat-5 Ethernet cable.

When you plug the game console into the data jack in your room using a Cat-5 Ethernet cable, the DHCP client on your game console will automatically receive IP address information from the DHCP server.

UNREGISTERED DEVICES MAY BE BANNED AND BLOCKED FROM THE NETWORK.

Xbox Troubleshooting

If your Xbox is not getting online, check the settings to make sure it has IP address information. Make sure it is set to receive an IP address automatically. Check to make sure that the data cable is plugged in on each end. Plug a known working computer into the jack you are using and see if it gets an IP address and you are able to get online. If the computer works, then you know that you have a working data jack and there must be an issue with the game console. If this is the case, please contact Microsoft for support, as ResCom does not provide support for online gaming systems other than to verify that your data jack is working correctly

Playstation Troubleshooting

If your playstation is not getting online, check the settings to make sure it has IP address information. Check to make sure that the data cable is plugged in on each end. Plug a known working computer into the jack you are using and see if it gets an IP address and you are able to get online. If the computer cannot get an IP address, the data jack may not be working and you should fill out a IT Helpdesk Request.
